Vista Connecting to Shared Printer Resolution

A A A

Whenever I tried to connect my Vista powered laptop to the printer shared on my Windows 2003 Server desktop I encountered an error.

The error explained that my printer monitor was not recognized.  The solution to this problem was to re-enable UAC and restart the machine.  For some reason the UAC allows the printer to use the existing drivers that ship with Vista, while having it disabled prevents Vista from being able to use the existing drivers.  Once you have the printer installed you are free to disable UAC again.

Hopefully this will be helpful for anyone encountering this issue.

*UPDATE* After getting the printer to work it printed in mirrored mode and apparently the HP drivers do not resolve this fact at this point.
