I have had an iBook for a few years. Shortly after I purchased it the logic board went out on it, so I thought. I did not get it replaced and instead just let it sit for the last two years.
Tonight I pulled out the iBook with plans to potentially fix it. I did in fact fix it, by taking the bottom of the iBook apart and putting a soft strip of foam over the video card. By doing this it applied enough pressure to the card to make a connection. As a result I was able to turn the computer on and see video :)
During this process I had managed to take the airport card out, so I turned the computer off and put the card back in. When I turned the computer back on it didn't recognize the card. So I turned it off again and checked the connection. When I plugged the power back in it was making an electric buzzing sound by where the airport card connects and would not turn on.
Eventually I realized that the shield on the under side of the computer was not making a good connection, so I completed the connection and the computer came on. Still, no airport card recognition. I turned the computer off and when I went to turn it on again after checking the card the shield completed a connection where it shouldn't have or something because I saw a spark, and now it won't turn on.
This laptop is a piece of crap as far as it was designed. I mean, you cannot easily take it apart without hurting the casing in some way, it is pretty bad. I thought that because Apple is supposedly a hardware company that they would make it easy for fixing things like this. It has really crushed my hope in using my iBook again and my hope that Apple is a good hardware company.
*Sigh*
